SMART Rivers 2017
Compartimos información acerca de la Conferencia SMART Rivers 2017 a realizarse en Estados Unidos del 18 al 21 de Septiembre:
PIANC USA is proud to host SMART Rivers 2017 this year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 18-21, 2017. In holding our conference in Pittsburgh, we are returning to the location of the first SMART Rivers Conference! The SMART Rivers Conference is a biennial international forum bringing together those involved in river transport to benchmark best practices for inland waterways around the world, and to better integrate inland waterborne transport into the global supply chain. Originally the “Strategic Maritime Asset Research and Transformation for 21st Century River Systems,” SMART Rivers began in 2004 with a cooperation agreement between U.S. and European partners. The first conference was held in October 2005 in Pittsburgh, so it is fitting that we return to the ‘City of Three Rivers’ for this eighth SMART Rivers conference. Beginning in 2011, the SMART Rivers conference series was placed under the umbrella of PIANC, the World Association of Waterborne Transport Infrastructure.
Located at the confluence of three rivers, Pittsburgh has a long and historic tradition of waterway transportation and is fast becoming a must-visit destination for tourism as well. The conference venue is the Sheraton at Station Square, on the bank of the Monongahela River and right below the famous Monongahela Incline which offers a picture perfect view of the city. Pittsburgh is also increasingly being known as a food destination and has many famous dishes to try!
Technical topics at the conference will include waterway infrastructure, environment and climate change, inland waterway transportation, information services, cooperation and regulations, sustainability and new markets, financing and energy. Technical tours will highlight the diverse and dynamic role that Pittsburgh plays in waterborne transportation. In addition, six Pre-Conference Short courses will be offered:
Course 1: Implementation of River Implementation Systems
Course 2: Resilience of the Inland Waterborne Transport System
Course 3: Small Harbors Innovation & Design
Course 4: Composites for Hydraulic Structures
Course 5: Inflatable Structures in Hydraulic Engineering
Course 6: Working with Nature in Rivers: Managing Ecosystem Services and Risks
SMART Rivers will also feature an Industry Exhibition and spaces are still available. More than 250 waterborne transport experts from around the world will be gathered to share and learn the latest science and information on navigation technology.
